Illinois Workers' Compensation Fraud Alert

The IWCC has been made aware of scammers posing as judges, attorneys, or state employees to solicit payments and personal information from people with a workers’ compensation claim.

The following examples are red flags of a scam:

1. Unexpected call from an out of state attorney. A caller claims to be an attorney, says you won your hearing, and asks you to send money.
2. Fake email addresses and fake documents. These emails and documents appear official but do not come from a legitimate @illinois.gov address.

1. The IWCC does not charge fees for workers’ compensation benefits, does not request payment via wire transfers nor pressure you to act immediately.
2. The IWCC  Illinois does NOT hold hearings via Zoom, all hearings are in person. While IWCC does hold statuses via WebEx, these can be accessed on links on the IWCC website.

DO NOT SPEAK, TEXT, OR SEND EMAIL TO ANYONE YOU DO NOT KNOW ABOUT YOUR CLAIM. GENERALLY, NO ONE FROM IWCC WILL EVER CONTACT YOU ABOUT YOUR CLAIM.

ANYONE WHO ASKS YOU TO PAY THEM IN ORDER TO RECEIVE YOUR WORKERS’ COMPENSATION BENEFITS IS LIKELY SEEKING TO SCAM YOU.
